Znojmo - The Znojmo City Hall wants to build a new indoor swimming pool for approximately 120 million crowns near the outdoor swimming pool Louka. The current municipal baths are located at the other end of the city and, according to spokesperson Zuzana Pastrňáková, would need expensive repairs. The city has invested several million crowns into them recently to allow hygienists to approve their reopening. If everything goes according to the city hall's plans, the new pool could be completed near Louka in four years, Pastrňáková told ČTK.
"Repairing the existing baths is uneconomical and moreover, they would need to be closed for a year," the spokesperson explained the preparations for the construction of the new pool. The city is currently preparing the project documentation, and only then will the cost of the facility be revealed. For now, the architect estimated it to be around 120 million crowns. The city hall wants to obtain part of the funds from the EU. "According to calculations, the construction of a new facility in this location is less costly than a potential complete renovation of the municipal baths," said Mayor Vlastimil Gabrhel (ČSSD).
The new pool will probably be connected to the outdoor swimming pool. The municipal swimming pool Louka, next to which the new pool will be built, has been operational for ten years. The pool has a capacity of 2,450 visitors, and its construction cost around 200 million crowns. According to current proposals, the complex in the future should feature an indoor swimming pool, a relaxation pool, a whirlpool, and a children's pool on the ground floor. The first floor will house a wellness area, which will include a sauna, steam room, and gym.
The municipal baths in Znojmo were last renovated this summer and were closed for two months. The reconstruction included showers, restrooms, and the ceiling above the swimming pool. The work cost two million crowns. According to the current considerations of the city hall, the baths should be completely closed after the new pool is completed. "This is the current vision," confirmed Pastrňáková. In recent years, the baths have received exemptions from hygiene authorities to even allow them to reopen, and summer repairs have improved the situation.
