Znojmo

Znojmo - Znojmo is preparing to inform residents about the plan for the construction of an indoor swimming pool. The city hall leadership has yielded to the pressure from some opposition councilors who criticized the city for wanting to build a new pool in Louka for a large sum of money, which was said to be 200 million crowns, while the city would still have dilapidated baths. A meeting with the public will take place on Monday, June 23, at 5:30 PM at the Kuželna restaurant near the swimming pool, informed the city spokesperson Zuzana Pastrňáková.

The councilors and the opposition currently agree that Znojmo needs an indoor pool. However, the opposition criticizes the construction of the new pool if it is not clear what will happen to the pool in Svobody Square. "We are aware that this is an expensive but also an important construction. We want to inform citizens about why we are considering the construction of an indoor pool, what advantages and disadvantages it brings, and how the entire complex could look," stated Mayor Vlastimil Gabrhel (ČSSD).
The new complex, which would be located at the site of the outdoor swimming pool, would offer, in addition to a swimming pool, a relaxation pool, a whirlpool, a children's pool, and wellness facilities on the upper floor, including a sauna, steam room, and fitness center. The specific design is not yet known; the city will have the project documentation completed once it is clear which variant will be chosen.
The wellness operation is one of the arguments for the new construction. There is nothing similar in the baths, and it is uncertain whether it would even be possible to incorporate such facilities into the existing space. Therefore, the city had a comparative study prepared, which will also answer the question of whether new construction or renovation is cheaper and more profitable. "The study is to provide a proposal for the utilization of the baths in the event that a new pool is built. We will present the results of the study to the citizens at the public discussion," said Pastrňáková.
The final decision on which option the city chooses also depends on financial possibilities. Gabrhel clearly stated that funding from multiple sources is a prerequisite, as the city budget is insufficient for such a large construction. "We will try to obtain a subsidy," added Gabrhel.
