Znojmo - This year, Znojmo continued the replacement of windows in the Loucký Monastery, this time focusing on the eastern facade of the convent. It paid 4.7 million crowns for this, with one million crowns provided by the Ministry of Culture. The baroque convent is the most visible and monumental part of the monastery. The windows have been gradually replaced for the third year, said city spokeswoman Zuzana Pastrňáková in a press release.
"An interesting aspect of this year's repairs is that not only were the windows replaced, but the original metal windows with a unique lever mechanism were also restored. The original metal windows were installed in the former orangery. Another unique find is the bricked-up baroque window frames with fragments of window wings, which were discovered while removing the bricking of the original window opening in the side part of the risalit," said Deputy Mayor Jakub Malačka (ČSSD).
A total of 36 wooden windows were replaced in the monastery this year, and the restoration concerned nine metal windows with a lever mechanism. Additionally, seven grilles were made for the windows on the lower part of the building in the stucco hall. The new handmade windows replicate the appearance of the original ones.
"We want to continue to invest gradually in the Loucký Monastery and look for funding opportunities. Currently, we also have to address the roof trusses, which are in a state of emergency," added Malačka.
The Loucký Monastery was declared a national cultural monument last year; it is one of the city's landmarks and one of the most valuable examples of late baroque art in Moravia. Znojmo has owned it since 2010 when the state transferred it to the city free of charge. The former riding hall has already undergone a complete reconstruction, and further investments have been directed towards the repair of the facade of the former stable. Part of the complex is used by the winery Znovín Znojmo.
