Znojmo - The national cultural monument Loucký monastery in Znojmo will have 38 new windows on the eastern façade of the baroque convent by the end of November. Workers have been working on the replacement since 2016, and after this year, the monastery will have 187 new windows, which is about half. This year, Znojmo is investing 3.8 million crowns in the window replacement, said city spokesperson Zuzana Pastrňáková in a press release.

Loucký monastery is under strict protection. "All the window replicas, their material and colors are based on historical documents, and their appearance had to be approved by heritage protectors. The windows are casement with inward opening and are made of solid larch with a coating in the color of matte ivory," added Pastrňáková.

Next year, builders will continue with the seventh phase of window replacement on the façade facing Klášterní Street.

For more than a year, workers have also been repairing the building of the Old School in Znojmo, which is part of Loucký monastery. It will serve as a community and educational center. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2021.

The monastery was founded in 1190 by the Czech prince Konrád II. Ota and was settled by the Premonstratensians. The Hussites plundered it, and a massive reconstruction began in the 18th century. However, due to the reforms of Emperor Joseph II, it was not completed; the monastery was abolished in 1784 and served for tobacco processing and later for soldiers for 200 years. Znojmo acquired it gratuitously from the state in 2010. Since 2017, it has been a national cultural monument.
