On Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at 6:00 PM, a lecture on the topic of What is Architecture? will take place at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, CTU, Thákurova 7. The spring series will be opened by architect Václav Aulický, a Czech architect and university professor. He is a graduate of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, CTU. His buildings feature hi-tech and postmodern elements.
In 1967, he graduated in architecture from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, CTU in Prague, where he studied the field of architecture and urban construction. Since the 1970s, he has worked at the design organization Spojprojekt Prague, focusing mainly on buildings for telecommunications and transmitters. He has led a studio there even after the company was transformed into a joint-stock company and privatized.
He made a name for himself with the design of the Žižkov Television Tower, the tallest structure in Prague. He began working on the transmitter as early as 1978, but it was completed only in 1991. Other notable projects include the endangered Transgas and the now-demolished Automatic Telephone Exchange in Dejvice.
Since 2005, he has also been working at the Faculty of Architecture, CTU, as a studio head. Later, he also habilitated there as an associate professor.
The lecture will take place at 6 PM in Studio D, Faculty of Civil Engineering, CTU in Prague.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
