The civic association Kruh and the prestigious Faculty of Architecture at ETH Zurich invite you to another lecture evening from the series “Swiss-Czech Inspirations”, which is co-financed by the Partnership Fund of the Swiss-Czech Cooperation Programme. This dual lecture will focus on the current topic: constructing architecture in a digital environment.
How are robots changing architecture? What does the potential of current digital technology bring to design and construction? How deeply does construction influence architecture? What is the dynamic of relationships between design, geometry, and the building itself?
These and other questions will be answered on May 15 at 19:30 at Kino Světozor by Swiss architects Fabio Gramazio and Toni Kotnik, who are engaged in research and the development of new solutions in the field of construction and materials. They explore the possibilities of connecting data information and matter, programming and construction, which they call “Digital Materiality”. They are fascinated by how these close interactions give rise to a completely new aesthetic quality of architecture.
Fabio Gramazio focuses on computer design, robotic fabrication, and material innovation. Since 2005, he has been leading the Gramazio & Kohler pair in the Department of Architecture and Digital Fabrication at ETH Zurich, where they established the first robotic laboratory for architecture. Fabio Gramazio is a pioneer in new methods of designing and constructing using industrial robots. He is a co-author of the book The Robotic Touch (2014) with the subtitle “How Robots Change Architecture”.
The lecture titled “Rule-Based Design/Digital Materiality and Hylomorphic Tectonics” is already the third lecture of a successful series that presents contemporary Swiss architecture to a Czech audience.
The lecture will be in English, interpreted into Czech, and is free for everyone.
