The Circle and the Faculty of Architecture at ETH invite you to a series of lectures

"Swiss-Czech Inspiration"

The Circle association, in collaboration with the Faculty of Architecture at ETH Zurich, has prepared a prestigious series of lectures titled Swiss-Czech Inspirations for those interested in architecture. This year in Prague, a number of top architects, theorists, and architectural historians will present.
They will introduce current trends in world architecture on both practical and theoretical levels, and will bring Swiss architecture closer to the audience, which is among the most compact and inspiring architectures in Europe. All lectures are free and will be simultaneously interpreted into Czech. The project follows successful and highly attended series presenting the architecture of individual European countries – the French, Spanish, and Dutch cycles.
Seven lecture and discussion evenings will take place until March 2014. The cycle will open on Thursday, March 6, 2014, with architect Christian Kerez, who is currently designing an unconventional family house in the Czech Republic. Christian Kerez was born in 1962 in Venezuela and studied architecture at ETH, which he will also represent at the lecture as a professor. He initially focused intensely on publishing on the topic of architectural photography, and currently works on design and different projects of various scales in France, the Czech Republic, Brazil, and China. His projects are featured in most major exhibitions of contemporary art and architecture, and are covered by prestigious world media. Among his most interesting realizations is the Museum of Art in Vaduz – a black object in the middle of the city, designed together with Morger & Degelo Architects, and the widely published glass new school building with a bold structure in Leutschenbach in Zurich. He also gained fame for the small concrete chapel (Oberrealta Chapel) built in the 1990s.

The Circle association has been organizing public events and lectures focused on current developments in architecture since 2001. The aim of the lectures and discussions is to facilitate a dialogue about quality Czech and world architecture and architectural creation to a wider public – that is, beyond a narrow circle of experts and architecture students. The Circle has already organized over a hundred lectures by significant and emerging Czech and foreign architects and architectural theorists, two film festivals on architecture, and an exhibition titled Profession: Architect. It regularly publishes anthologies of Texts on Architecture. The Circle association is also the initiator of the nationwide festival Architecture Day, which is held throughout the Czech Republic with great public interest.
