Laurent Stalder. Neither Old Nor New. The Search for Autonomous Architecture The lecture will provide a concentrated overview of Swiss architectural production over the last forty years – the 1970s and their groundbreaking competitions, the 1980s and the emergence of the so-called Analog School, the turn of the century and the shift from a cultural to a more material understanding of architecture, and finally the contemporary production. The lecture will focus on the changing fate of the concept of autonomy. Laurent Stalder has been an extraordinary professor of the history and theory of architecture at ETH Zurich since 2011. His research focuses on the history and theory of architecture from the 19th to the 21st century in relation to the history of technology. His most recent publications include: Herrmann Muthesius: Das Landhaus als kulturgeschichtlicher Entwurf (The Country House as a Cultural-Historical Construct, 2008), Valerio Olgiati (2008), Der Schwellenatlas (The Threshold Atlas, 2009), God & Co.
