Monday, November 18, 2013, 19:30 French Institute in Prague, Štěpánská 35, Prague 1 free / the lecture will be in French and will be translated into Czech
How to restore the charm to cities? Manuelle Gautrand will present her philosophy and the way she perceives architecture. She will show selected projects in great detail, from initial ideas and concepts to final realizations. Through this, she will allow the audience to glimpse the full breadth of her creative world and showcase her intense search for and discovery of solutions.
Manuelle Gautrand (*1961) is a French architect based in Paris. She is the recipient of several awards, including the Albums de la Jeune Architecture prize for young architects (1992), the international Bénédictus Awards (1999), the AMO award (2000), and the silver medal of the Academy of Architecture. Among her projects is the Citroen showroom on the Champs-Elysées (2007), which she conceived as a striking showcase for the brand. Bold and inventive solutions, not only for building facades, are characteristic of Manuelle Gautrand. The extension project for the modern art museum in Lille (2002) impresses with its organic shapes of new buildings that seamlessly connect with the original buildings, as well as the decorative expression of the entire structure, created by perforating concrete cladding panels. In addition to designing, Manuelle Gautrand teaches at architectural schools in Paris, Vienna, and Florida.

The Civic Association Kruh has been organizing public events and lectures focused on current developments in architecture since 2001. The aim of the lectures and discussions is to facilitate a dialogue about quality Czech and world architecture and architectural creation with a broader audience - i.e., beyond the narrow circle of experts and architecture students. Kruh has already organized more than a hundred lectures by prominent and emerging Czech and foreign architects and architectural theorists, two film festivals about architecture, and an exhibition Profession: Architect. It regularly publishes anthologies of texts on architecture. The Civic Association Kruh is also the initiator of the nationwide festival Architecture Day.
