We would like to invite you to a lecture by Martin Strakoš, which will take place at the library of the Gallery of Fine Arts in Ostrava today, October 21, 2014, at 4:30 PM. International and Regional Aspects of Valašsko Architecture from the Late 19th to the Early 21st Century
The lecture by NPÚ, part of the series Interesting Facts and News in Heritage Preservation in the Moravian-Silesian Region, will discuss the manifestations of architectural culture in Valašsko during the period of developing late historicism, modernity, international style, socialist realism, postmodernism, and contemporary trends. A strong tension and at the same time firm connections between the periphery and important architectural centers represent a defining character of the regional culture here. To illustrate this, we will analyze in more detail the works of architects who grew up or worked in Valašsko, who adopted and developed inspirations of both international and regional nature, or made their mark in cultural and social centers. Among them are Dušan Jurkovič, Josef Místecký, Bohumír Kupka, Ludvík Hilgert, and a strong generation of graduates from the Vocational School for Wood Processing in Valašské Meziříčí, including Václav Hilský, Richard F. Podzemný, Zdeněk Plesník, Antonín Tenzer, and others. To give an idea of how alive the architectural culture here is, we will also present the contemporary architectural works from the circle of middle-generation architects.
