Tuesday, December 15, 2015, at 7:00 PM at Divadlo 29 / Sv. Anežky České 29, Pardubice
The final lecture of this year's Offcity architect series, which has focused throughout the year on the presentation of associations and initiatives actively entering public space, working with the city and its architecture, organizing events, lectures, festivals, initiating, and activating. We have gradually introduced platforms and projects from various corners of the Czech Republic and, through one of the lectures, we also visited our neighbors in Slovakia. With the December presentation, we expand the international context to Austria, specifically representatives from Upper Austria's Linz, an industrial city that has been significantly profiling itself as a city of culture and media since the early 1990s and systematically engaging in strategic planning in culture.
Collective Ika is a group of several Linz architects and designers (Clemens Bauder, Franz Koppelstätter, Magdalena Reiter, Klaus Michael Scheibl, Jomo Zeil) who, through their artistic and architectural projects, aim to change the perception of public space in order to explore its potential and challenge established conventions. Typical examples of what Ika focuses on include themes of the commercialization of public space or abandoned places and buildings.
Since members of Collective Ika are active in other interesting projects related to architecture, they will also present activities of the association afo (Architekturforum Oberösterreich) and the platform Fruchtgenuss during the evening.
How is contemporary architecture and the themes Ika works with perceived by locals? Does Linz support independent activities and projects working with architecture and public space? What concerns Collective Ika the most in Linz?
The lecture and discussion will be conducted in English.
Admission: 50 CZK
