On Thursday, April 20, 2017, at 7:00 PM, a panel discussion Light and Darkness in Brno will take place at the Brno café Trojka, Dominikánská 9. The evening's guests will be RNDr. Jan Hollan, Ph.D. and Associate Professor Ing. arch. Michal Sedláček, AIA . Almost everyone has tried shining a flashlight on their face from below in the dark. For a brief moment, a cute child's face becomes a "ghost." Why is it common today to have bottom lighting for historical monuments, building facades, and sculptures? How much light does a person need for safe movement in a night city, and why is insects' role important for the life of parks? We will talk about life in the urban environment, light pollution, and its impacts on humans. If you want to see Orion in the future without having to attend a PSH concert, come... Jan Hollan (*1955) is an astronomer, physicist, and ecologist, having studied physics at the Faculty of Science of Masaryk University in Brno and currently working at the Center for Global Change Research of the Czech Academy of Sciences, at the Institute of Health Protection and Support of MU, and at the Ecological Institute Veronica. As a councilor, he is a member of the Environment Committee and the Smart City Committee. Michal Sedláček (*1963) is an architect. He studied architecture at the Brno University of Technology and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, and from 1990 lived in the USA, working in studios in New York, Los Angeles, and for several years also in Moscow. Since last year, he has been the director of the Office of the Architect of the City of Brno for the first time in its modern history, and it is no surprise that he faces many tasks and challenges. We will inquire about the achievements during the first year of the Chief Architect's office or how he perceives the city's environment from the perspective of the architectural profession.
The evening will be moderated by Ing. arch. Jiří Vítek Curator: Ing. arch. Albert Novák
