The trapezoid is not a typical floor plan in modular construction. When KOMA, in collaboration with the CHYBIK+KRISTOF studio, introduced it 10 years ago, it was a revolution in modular construction. However, after the first decade, it needed to be taken to the next level, so KOMA focused on functionality and simplicity while maintaining an elegant and clean design.

KOMA and the Vision of New Design in Public Spaces

KOMA Modular always strives to advance its projects and products, not only in terms of higher quality, flexibility, and availability but also in improving overall design. One of their products that demonstrates this is the CITY modules. These modules represent the ideal solution for various short-term events in public spaces, such as film and art festivals, design shows, concerts, information booths, or even the expansion of outdoor areas, which are particularly popular in the summer months among café and restaurant operators as well as their visitors.

Trapezoidal Shape: A Revolution in Modular Architecture

The creation of CITY modules marked the beginning of a collaboration with the renowned architectural studio CHYBIK + KRISTOF. In 2013, KOMA issued a challenge to create a new revolutionary product. The architects, who are now known for their innovative ideas, eagerly participated in this challenge. This collaboration then developed during the creation of the Czech pavilion for EXPO Milan in 2015, which was built from KOMA modules and received international recognition.

"Mr. Martinec was eager to come to the market with something revolutionary. After lengthy discussions, we finally found the option to assemble modules into new and interesting spatial combinations that would complement public spaces. This is how the trapezoidal shape was created," comment the founders of the studio, Ondřej Chybík and Michal Krištof. "Thanks to this shape, the modules can be arranged into even more attractive configurations. From twelve modules, it is even possible to create a circular structure with an inner courtyard, which is extremely interesting."

Design Element in the Streets

Despite being modules, the CITY module does not look like an ordinary container. On the contrary, it acts as a small element of modern modular architecture that enlivens the streets and public spaces of the city. Moreover, customers have the option to customize the partition walls of the module to their needs, choosing from glass, tinted, opening, or fixed variants. The installation of the modules on site is very quick, taking only a few dozen minutes.

Innovation Never Ends

However, the CITY module project is not a closed product that has been completed and will no longer develop. Quite the contrary, KOMA continues to innovate and improve this product range to meet customer demands and further advance this type of modular architecture. The current "upgrade" allows users to better utilize the space of the module and significantly simplifies the handling of opening walls, which is also reflected in the design, which is now even simpler and cleaner.

Upgrade – Easier Operation, Comfortable Use

The new operation system for the CITY module walls can be easily operated with one hand. The walls can be closed and locked, ensuring that your internal equipment will be safe outside of opening hours. You will find electrical connections and outlets in the back wall, so you can conveniently power your devices. For perfect lighting, spotlights are secured in the ceiling. In the back wall, there is a clever space for hanging shelves and other hooks for interior equipment.

Through its CITY modules, KOMA confirms that it is at the forefront of modularity. The success and popularity of this product are evident from events such as Zlín Design Week, Pop-up Gallery Sport in Art in Račice, Zlín Film Festival, and many others.
