Brno – Brno has selected a contractor for 24 residential buildings with cooperative and municipal rental apartments at Kamenný vrch. Three bidders showed interest in the construction, and the company Strabag + Syner for Kamenný vrch II won with the lowest bid exceeding two billion crowns. The selection of the firm has already been confirmed by Brno city councilors and the cooperative's general meeting, the city authority announced today in a press release.

Currently, there is a period for appeals. If all goes well, the city will sign the contract with the contractor in the summer months and hand over the construction site in the fall. The company has three and a half years to construct 353 apartments distributed across three streets, the city authority stated.

"One building with 19 apartments will be financed by the municipal district of Brno-Nový Lískovec and will subsequently be rented out, three buildings with 54 apartments will be retained by the city for rental housing, and the remaining 280 apartments will be created under the cooperative housing scheme," said Deputy Mayor for Housing Karin Podivinská (Brnoklidem).

"There are about 60 apartments left for reservation. This is the cheapest way to a new building in Brno because the city, unlike private developers, does not add any margins to the prices. Cooperators will acquire them purely at cost," she added. Information and the registration form are available at bydleni.brno.cz.

At Wednesday's meeting, the city council also discussed selecting a bank that will provide a loan to the cooperative for construction. The city approached the five largest banks in the Czech Republic, with Československá obchodní banka providing the most advantageous offer. The selection of the bank still needs to be approved by the city council, which meets on Tuesday, June 23.
