Most - The Cultural House Repre in Most will have a new visual identity, and possibly a new name. The city has already selected the operator for the building's restaurant. The costs of the extensive reconstruction, during which only the bare walls of the building from the 1970s have remained, are continuously growing. The reconstruction is expected to be largely completed by the end of the year, with costs around one billion crowns. This was stated to journalists today by Mayor Marek Hrvol (ProMOST).
According to the city hall, the aim of the new visual identity is to create a modern, clear, and unified presentation. The costs are 322,000 crowns. The city will collaborate on its design with Lukáš Matouš, who is one of the authors of the visual identity of Most, in order to ensure that both visuals connect naturally. At the same time, the building could also receive a new name. "Although we have the Repre brand, we are not opposed to a change," said the mayor.
The city has already chosen the restaurant operator, although the cultural house might not open to the public until the first half of next year, due to interior preparations. "Construction will take place in cooperation with the operator, so that we can accommodate their requirements for the facilities," said the mayor. The selected company Šafrán will also provide catering in the social hall, where the last balls were held in 2019.
The original completion deadline for the repairs was September 2026. The building, constructed by prisoners in the 1970s, was structurally sound, but experts deemed the execution catastrophic. The construction was carried out quickly but unprofessionally; the concrete structures were inaccurate, and a bricked-up glove was found. During demolition, craftsmen discovered asbestos in the structure and encountered a substrate layer from the fill. "Work has not stopped over the winter; on the contrary, it has accelerated, and communication with the contractor has improved," Hrvol said. The city is gradually signing additional agreements with the company for extra costs, which, according to the mayor, are currently around 50 million crowns.
The library with an archive will move to Repre, taking up a substantial part of the building. A new educational exhibition will be created in the building, the planetarium will be preserved, and the hall where balls were previously held will remain. The house will be multifunctional and can also be used as a cinema. The hall's capacity will be 800 seats and approximately 200 standing places. There will be a restaurant on the ground floor.
