Plzeň – Plzeň is planning five large parking garages costing hundreds of millions of crowns. After opening the three-story Atom building in the largest housing estate Lochotín for 173 cars at a cost of 115 million CZK two weeks ago, it is completing construction at Světovar. The preparation of parking garages in the Vinice and Bory housing estates is also nearing completion. A large building will be constructed above the zoo, dinosaur park, and amphitheater, and a second, the largest to date, near the central bus station close to the city center. This was announced by Deputy Mayor Pavel Bosák (Pirates) to ČTK.
"In Hodonínská on Vinice, the execution documentation is currently being drawn. We should be able to put it out to tender in the autumn; we are close to realization. It is a similar concept as Atom (light modular, partially buried in the terrain), although there are different ramps. It is a simple two-story skeleton, without elevators and restrooms, standing on an existing solid surface," said Bosák.
This September, the city will open the eight-story Světovar building for 433 vehicles at a cost of about 200 million crowns. "Luna (a parking garage in Bory with 329 spaces) is ready. We have excavated one rerouting and thus formally started the construction, but we are waiting for the funds," said Bosák. According to him, construction could start immediately if over 200 million CZK is allocated from the budget. "We have even solved the problem with the fire regulation. This was delaying the construction because it was unclear how to install photovoltaics in the building," he added.
The city is preparing two large parking garages for which technical studies are being drawn. One will be above the zoo in the parking area above the amphitheater in Vinice and is expected to have up to 500 spaces. "It will partially serve as Park & Ride (a catchment area for cars whose drivers continue by public transport), for the residents of Vinice, but also for visitors to the zoo, dinosaur park, and events in the amphitheater," said Bosák.
The largest parking garage in Plzeň, which will have up to 1000 spaces, is planned next to the central bus station, where there is currently a Park & Ride parking lot on the paved area. "It will partially serve the future residential development around the station. The entire station is also expected to be a residential quarter according to the urban study," said the deputy mayor. The city, which is also planning a kindergarten there, wants to agree on a land exchange with the private owner, who owns the station building and the land underneath it. The other areas of platforms and roads are city-owned. The city will relocate international bus transportation to the main train station to the site of the post office, which it recently purchased.
Plzeň now has three parking garages with Atom. Two are in the city center – Rychtářka with 447 spaces and the building near the New Theater with 166 spaces.
