Reconstruction of Míru Square in Tišnov has been completed, rules for drivers will change

Tišnov – After nearly a year and a half, the complete reconstruction of Míru Square in the center of Tišnov, in the Brno region, has been completed for 164 million crowns. The traffic closure has ended, but the rules of operation in the square are different than before. The surface has a unified pavement, a water staircase has been added, unusual street lamps in the shape of swallows, and several bicycle racks have been installed. The square was officially opened today by representatives of the town hall and the construction company.

"The square is now much more accessible. In many places, it was necessary to lower the surface and repair the terrain. For example, at the corner by the post office, the stairs have disappeared, and the central area around the fountain has been expanded. This has created a generous space for cultural events, and there are foundations for placing both a small and a large stage," said Tišnov Mayor Jiří Dospíšil (MOST).

Part of the revitalization of the square included the planting of 48 mature trees, and a small fountain has been added to the piazzetta next to the town hall. However, many changes in the square are hidden beneath the surface. The complete renewal of all utility networks, which were outdated, has taken place, and there is also a large retention and accumulation tank with underground water distribution to all the trees beneath the square.

Although pedestrians now have more space in the square than cars, two-way traffic for vehicles up to 3.5 tons and buses has been preserved. In the upper part of the square near the polyclinic, the speed limit has been reduced to 30 kilometers per hour, while in the lower part of the square, there is a so-called shared zone with a speed limit of 20 kilometers per hour and right-hand priority.

With a price of 164 million crowns, this was the largest investment by the city to date. The city received a subsidy of 40 million crowns from the European Union, and the Tišnov Water and Sewer Association contributed eight million crowns.
