Týniště nad Orlicí – The Czech Rail Authority (SŽ) has announced a tender for the reconstruction of the railway station in Týniště nad Orlicí in the Rychnov area. The highest bid is 2.39 billion crowns, and the start of works is planned for the beginning of next year. Completion is expected by the end of 2028, spokesperson David Kabele informed CTK today. The administration will divide the tender into three separate parts: infrastructure, energy, and security. The goal is to allow a larger number of applicants to participate in the competition.
"Creating a competitive environment leads to reduced costs. An important transfer hub will gain modern parameters, and a new overpass will enhance operational safety," Kabele stated.
The project includes the reconstruction of the track layout, including switches, and the new arrangement of tracks is expected to speed up train transit. Passengers will benefit from a clear information and orientation system.
"Instead of the existing crossing on T. G. Masaryk Street, a road overpass and a barrier-free underpass for pedestrians will be built. The installation of electronic security devices will also ensure higher operational safety," the spokesperson noted. Builders will also modernize five railway crossings and simultaneously modify adjacent streets and create parking lots.
The reconstruction of the station in Týniště nad Orlicí will be financially supported by a loan from the European Investment Bank in the Czech Rail TEN-T and Regional project. National funding will be ensured by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure.
"After the completion of the construction, the station's capacity will increase, and it will be prepared for the planned double tracking towards Hradec Králové. This is part of the modernization of the entire route from Velký Osek to Choceň, which will serve as an alternative route to the heavily utilized main corridor. As the first phase of this project, the reconstruction of the railway node in Hradec Králové has already begun," Kabele stated.
At the Týniště nad Orlicí station, the line to Častolovice in the Rychnov area and to the developing industrial zone Solnice-Kvasiny begins, where the Škoda Auto car manufacturer operates. This railway connection, significant mainly for freight transport, is undergoing reconstruction. "The result of this project will be a higher-capacity and fully electrified railway," Kabele added.
The Czech Rail Authority began the reconstruction of the main station in Hradec Králové this spring. The project, costing 9.94 billion crowns excluding VAT, is expected to be completed by the end of 2031, according to SŽ representatives. Hradec Králové's main station is among the busiest stations in the Czech Republic, with over 20,000 passengers passing through daily and more than 200 trains utilizing it.
