Ještěd in a cage is a competition held on the grounds of the Faculty of Art and Architecture at the Technical University of Liberec, organized by its students.
This year's already 29th edition will kick off on the first day of February, that is Wednesday, February 1st, and will officially culminate in the announcement of the winners on Friday, February 3rd.
This time, the entire year revolves around the theme young&fresh. We have invited young graduates from universities and promising individuals whose names may not yet resonate in the headlines of articles but whom we perceive as having something to say and not needing 20 years of hard-earned experience in the field.
The Wednesday program kickoff will take place at Wollker's sanatorium. It has an impressive history, and the genius loci of the place will be reflected in the main event of the evening - an immersive theater performance titled Chátra, directed by FUA student Jaroslav Smejkal. He is developing the performance as part of a free assignment in the guest studio of Petr Janda. After the theater, thematically tuned ambient minimal sets by Bōr, Suubaru, Kdokoli, and Vincenc will follow in the spaces of the historic and mysterious villa.
On Thursday, after our jury evaluates the projects, we cordially invite everyone at 8:00 PM to a discussion in the Small Exhibition Hall of the city of Liberec at Edvard Beneš Square. Here, in a discussion titled "It's fresh, I like it!", our young&fresh judges will take the stage. We have invited curator Kamila S. Huptychová, urban planner Zuzana Poláková, landscape architect Marek Kratochvíl, artist Matouš Lipus, and architect Adam Lacina. The highlight of the evening will be the announcement of six nominations. However, we will all have to wait for the announcement of the two winners until Friday evening!
On Friday at 10 AM, we will open the doors of the studio and kick off a day-long exhibition of works created at FUA during the past semester. We will continue the program with a brunch featuring mimosa, where under the guidance of Markéta Špundová and Viktorie Macánová, everyone will style their own brunch.
The announcement of the two winners, with comments from the jury, will take place at 8:30 PM in the studio, and from 11 PM, we will enjoy a concert by the minimal synth duo Body of Pain at the artistic space Argonaut in the city center. Following them will be the techno, ebm collective Technørd – Dahø&Xadam.
We are very pleased to introduce our new sponsors for this year: Severské světlo, Artikon, Samat, and Pawlica.
Come visit us in Liberec to soak up youth and freshness too, we look forward to seeing you!
