Heinrich Lauterbach

In mid-February, the Jaroslav Fragner Gallery in Prague will present an exhibition prepared by the Museum of Architecture in Wrocław, showcasing the lifelong work of the significant architect and professor at universities in Poland and Germany, Heinrich Lauterbach (1893-1973). A native of Wrocław, he was close to architecture from a young age when he became acquainted with the architect Hans Poelzig, the director of the Academy in Wrocław. Lauterbach's studies at the Technical University in Darmstadt were interrupted by World War I, after which he graduated in Dresden under the pioneer of Art Nouveau, Martin Dülfler. He then worked in studios and design offices in Berlin, Kassel, and Opole. His international fame came from the exhibition Werkbund Wohnung und Werkraum, which he prepared in 1929. Following this success, he also constructed two functionalist villas in Jablonec nad Nisou, which remain among the most important realizations built there in the 20th century.
The exhibition at GJF at Betlémské náměstí 5a will run from February 12 to March 16, 2014.
