Rolf Fehlbaum, the director of the furniture company Vitra, is not only a passionate collector of robot toys but also of chair prototypes from renowned designers, whose products were displayed for a long time in the garage of the fire station designed by Zaha Hadid. On Friday, June 3, 2016, the "Schaudepot" (exhibition storage) by the Basel studio Herzog & de Meuron will be opened, which is already behind the project of the visitor center Vitra Haus, composed of twelve archetypal objects chaotically stacked upon each other. The new exhibition storage is located opposite the fire station. It consists of a simple house with a gabled roof, a façade made of exposed brick, and a single room with an area of 1600 m², where a permanent collection of four hundred exhibits from the Vitra Design Museum collections will be housed.
