Brno - Brno can continue with the preparation of a project for the construction of a central municipal building between Koliště and Benešova streets for 1.5 billion crowns. Today, the councilors approved the intention to acquire shares of the company that owns the land as well as the project documentation for the construction of the building. In the past, they wanted to build offices there but backed down from that. The new municipal building could be completed in 2024. All 1100 municipal employees, who currently work at about ten locations, would thus be together. This would save people time and reduce costs for the city for energy and building repairs. Some of them would be sold by the city.
The councilors approved the intention to acquire shares in the company CD Centrum Coms, from which assets in the form of land and project documentation with issued zoning decisions and building permits will be spun off from the company CD Centrum. The council was tasked with drafting a purchase agreement. 37 councilors voted in favor, four were against, and three abstained. The estimated price of the transaction is to be around 170 million crowns, which is part of the planned costs amounting to 1.5 billion.
Mayor Petr Vokřál (ANO) has previously stated that the city would obtain approximately half of the costs, amounting to 750 million, by selling part of the current municipal buildings. Officials are based in locations such as Kounicova street, Husova, Šumavská, Koliště, and Dominikánské náměstí. "Some institutions have already expressed interest in the buildings. The efficiency of renovating buildings and constructing a new one is investment-wise similar. From an energy perspective, the central building is more advantageous," said Vokřál. According to him, the central building with all departments would save time for people and offer a more pleasant environment for employees who are now working in various places and in old buildings.
According to the mayor's deputy Richard Mrázek (ANO), the city would save tens of millions of crowns annually on energy costs in the case of constructing the central building. The complex of three interconnected buildings could have a heating and cooling system using heat pumps, photovoltaics on the roof, and similar features. There are also plans for an underground parking lot with 500 spaces, which would provide parking for employees and citizens.
