Brno - Brno wants to build a central municipal building for 1.5 billion crowns between Koliště and Benešova streets. The council today approved a draft purchase contract for acquiring the company that owns the land and project documentation for the construction of the building. Marek Janíček (ANO), a council member, told ČTK today. The company wanted to build offices there, but backed out. If the contract is approved by the council, Brno can acquire shares and build the central building. It would house all 1,100 employees currently spread across about ten locations. The city would save money, and it would save people time.

The shares are currently owned by CD Centrum Coms. Through its purchase, the city would acquire the land as well as the project documentation with issued zoning decisions and building permits. The city will pay around 170 million crowns for this, which is part of the total investment of 1.5 billion for the construction of the municipal building.

Brno Mayor Petr Vokřál (ANO) has previously stated that about half of the funds can be obtained by selling the current municipal buildings. Officials are located, for example, in Kounicova, Husova, Šumavská, Kolišti, and Dominikánské náměstí. "Some institutions have already expressed interest in the buildings. The efficiency of converting existing buildings and constructing a new one has the same investment outcome. From an energy perspective, the central building is more advantageous," said Vokřál.

According to him, the central building with all departments would save time for people and also provide a more pleasant environment for employees who currently work in various places and in old buildings.

According to the mayor's deputy Richard Mrázka (ANO), the city would save tens of millions of crowns annually on energy costs in the case of constructing a central building. The complex of three interconnected buildings could, for example, have a heating and cooling system using heat pumps, photovoltaics on the roof, and so on. There are also plans for an underground parking lot with 500 spaces, which would offer parking for employees and other citizens.
