Brno - The coalition movement ANO wants to build a city hall building in Brno for 1.5 billion crowns, which would stand on the open space between Koliště and Benešova streets behind the Morava Palace, not far from the Grand Hotel. The mayor of Brno, Petr Vokřál (ANO), said this to reporters today. The building would house all 1,100 employees of the city hall, who currently work at about ten locations. This would save people time and reduce the city's costs for energy and repairs of current buildings, Vokřál stated. Some of them would be sold by the city.
The mayor's deputy, Richard Mrázek (ANO), told ČTK that the movement has already discussed the matter with coalition partners and will propose it for discussion in the council so that it can be approved by the September assembly. Originally, the company CD Centrum wanted to build a nine-story office building in the area, but they backed down. The city would purchase the land and the construction project from them for 170 million, which would already be part of the total investment. According to Mrázek, the building has an issued building permit, and the city would only make some internal adjustments.
The building is expected to be completed between 2023 and 2024. Officials from all current buildings, such as those on Kounicova, Husova, and Šumavská streets, Dominikánské náměstí, Koliště street, and other locations, could move in. Vokřál mentioned that the city might sell some of the buildings, which could allow them to recover about half of the costs, approximately 750 million crowns. "Some institutions have already expressed interest in the buildings. The efficiency of renovating buildings and constructing a new building is financially similar. From an energy perspective, a central facility is more advantageous," Vokřál stated.
According to Mrázek, tens of millions of crowns could be saved annually on energy. The complex of three interconnected buildings could have a heating and cooling system using heat pumps, photovoltaics on the roof, and similar features. There is also a plan for an underground parking lot with 500 spaces, which would provide parking for employees as well as citizens. According to Vokřál, a central building with all departments would save people time and would offer a more pleasant environment for employees who currently work in different locations and in old buildings.
