Brno - Brno wants to resolve by June 30 of this year whether to sell the dilapidated and empty Jalta palace at Dominikánské náměstí next to the New Town Hall, or to renovate it at its own expense for approximately 150 million crowns. If it is renovated, the municipal office of the Brno-Center district, which is currently in inadequate premises, will move in, Brno Mayor Petr Vokřál (ANO) said to reporters today. According to him, three buyers have expressed interest as of now, one of whom even submitted a written offer exceeding the price of 100 million crowns. If they provided a deposit of around 10 million, the city would continue negotiations regarding the sale.

Brno has attempted to sell Jalta in the past for around 100 million crowns, but the sale always fell through. Several interested parties emerged last year; however, they ultimately did not pay the required deposit. Therefore, the council approved today that if a serious buyer is not found by June 30, they agree to use the property for the Brno-Center district as its headquarters. "Until then, we want to have a deposit as a reservation, so we know that it makes no sense to consider converting Jalta into an office for the district. This is the last attempt to sell," stated Vokřál.

If the palace is not sold this time either, the city will negotiate closer terms with the Brno-Center district, which has expressed interest in moving into Jalta. However, the building would need to be renovated, as it has been empty for about ten years and is continuing to deteriorate. Vokřál estimates the renovation costs to be between 150 and 200 million crowns. If the district office moved in, it would vacate rented spaces from the city, for example, on Husova Street or Dominikánská, which according to Vokřál do not meet the conditions of a modern office.

The city hall exchanged Jalta at the turn of 2005 and 2006 for other lucrative buildings and plots. It originally planned to renovate it and relocate some of its officials there, but that did not happen due to the poor condition of the building.
