Brno – Children's Hospice House for Julia, which the city began building in August 2022, will be structurally completed by early April. The timeline has been extended by a few months compared to the original expectation, as several complications arose during construction. Today, Brno city councilors agreed to extend the work and to the adjustments related to the granting of a subsidy. The city expects the occupancy permit and handover to the operator by the end of May.

The hospice is being built near a retirement home in Kociánka. The construction was supposed to take 15 months. However, several complications have delayed it. For example, during the excavation work, workers found a landfill of municipal waste that needed to be removed and disposed of professionally. "Further problems arose soon after. The unsuitable unstable ground had to be excavated and taken to a landfill, and then work began on the foundations of the building. Fortunately, everything started progressing as it should," said Vaňková.

Now the construction company is completing the cladding of the building with larch bio-boards, and inside, workers are laying floor coverings, installing lights, switches, and outlets, and assembling the sanitary facilities. They are also installing pool technology and equipment for other specialized therapies that will be used by the hospice clients.

As soon as the weather permits, the builders will begin with landscaping. They will build new sidewalks, roads, parking lots, and the work will also include landscaping. "Part of the House for Julia is also a walkable roof that will blend perfectly into the surrounding environment, as the building is embedded into a slope. In the inner courtyard, there will be a relaxation zone with a pond and vegetation. Clients and their families will be able to spend time here. The hospice will have ten separate rooms and facilities for families. Its uniqueness lies in the combination of social and health services that are necessary for the care of terminally ill children and adolescents," added Vaňková.

The total construction costs are 176 million crowns excluding tax, with the subsidy covering 92 million crowns.
