Prague – Czech Post will sell its building on Hybernská Street near Masarykovo nádraží in Prague to Penta for a minimum bid price of 220 million crowns. Penta was the only interested party in the e-auction. Ivo Mravinac, spokesperson for Penta Investments, confirmed this to ČTK.
The post office operated a branch and a depot in the building. It ceased operations of both parts last year. Penta is building two multifunctional buildings on Na Florenci Street, close to Masarykovo nádraží, for 2.2 billion crowns according to the design of the late architect Zaha Hadid and is also working on the renovation of the station premises.
"Today, an e-auction for the post office building in Prague on Hybernská Street took place, from which the winner emerged, offering 220 million CZK, which was also the minimum bid price. Now, subsequent steps will take place, such as signing the contract and payment," said Ivo Vysoudil, spokesperson for the post office, to ČTK.
According to Mravinac, Penta plans to renovate the historically protected part of the building and demolish the unsuitable part. They want to create commercial spaces on the site. The historic station building from the 19th century and its surroundings have been undergoing repairs by the railways together with Penta Real Estate since 2011. So far, renovations have included the roofing of the departure hall, glass façade, technology, granite flooring, restrooms, and some retail spaces. New ticket offices have also been created closer to the platforms.
On the brownfield site at Masarykovo nádraží heading towards the Florenc bus station, Penta is preparing further construction. In total, it plans to invest ten billion crowns in the area.
