Přerov - The abandoned nine-story hotel Strojař near the center of Přerov, which was purchased by the city from the Ministry of Defense for 40.5 million crowns at the end of August, will be thoroughly examined by experts. The city will then hold a survey on the potential use of this property as housing for seniors, said councilor Petr Vrána (ANO) to ČTK today.

Thanks to the construction-technical survey, according to Vrána, it will be determined in what condition the nine-story building of Strojař, the adjacent restaurant, and the civil defense shelter, which also belongs to the property, are. "Once we have the report from the experts in hand, we can speak more specifically about the use of the building. The assessment will cost 300,000 crowns and will be completed by the end of this year," he stated.

The Strojař hotel on Velká Dlážka street, which was abandoned by soldiers at the end of 2013, has been offered for sale by the Ministry of Defense since January 2014. The army initially demanded 62 million crowns for it, and the price was gradually reduced. The city originally tried to acquire the property for free, which ultimately did not succeed. After two interested parties responded to the ministry in the final round of the tender, the city decided to buy the building. The reason was the fear that it would turn into another social housing facility. There are already about twenty of these in the city.

"Although the discussion about purchasing the property from the Ministry of Defense focused solely on a hostel with 144 rooms and 359 beds, it was clear that the city's property would also include the once-popular restaurant and the CO shelter,"
said the city spokesperson Lenka Chalupová.

The city does not yet have a plan for the use of the property. Previously, there were proposals to convert the hotel into social housing or a city hall, and there was also a proposal to demolish the building. The city's leadership estimates that the modification of Strojař will cost tens of millions of crowns. "In the case of conversion into apartments, it could be about 120 million, while converting it into offices could escalate the amount to as much as 200 million crowns," states the city's website.

According to Deputy Mayor Tomáš Navrátil (ANO), on Tuesday, October 4, the city will hold a survey at a seniors' symposium to gather information on whether older residents of Přerov are interested in using the former hotel Strojař for housing. People registered as so-called advisors will also be able to express their opinions to the city until about mid-November.
