Prague – Jan Kasl has been re-elected as the chairman of the Czech Chamber of Architects (ČKA) for another term. He has been at the head of the professional organization of architects since April 2019. Today, the chamber's spokesperson Tereza Zemanová reported this to ČTK. Petr Lešek remains the first vice-chairman, and Stašek Žerava was elected as the second vice-chairman. This year, the chamber celebrates 30 years since its establishment.
The seventy-year-old architect Jan Kasl, besides leading the chamber, is also a member of its legislative working group. He has been a licensed architect since 1992 and currently leads the studio JK Architekti. In the past, he was active in politics, serving as the mayor of Prague from 1998 to 2002.
"I believe we will be able to continue the trend of gaining greater respect for the profession of architect as well as the quality of the built environment and landscape care, promoting the Architecture and Building Culture Policy in everyday practice,” says the re-elected chairman. He sees challenges in the near future in the energy crisis and the war in Ukraine. He wants ČKA to promote itself more in the context of architects in the European Union.
ČKA is a self-governing professional organization with delegated state administration powers, established by law in 1992. The chamber is responsible for the professional, technical, and ethical performance of the architecture profession in the Czech Republic. Since the beginning of 2015, the chamber has been the official commenting body for laws, legal regulations, and regulations concerning the profession of architect. Since January 2016, it has organized the Czech Architecture Award competition and has held an exhibition of diploma theses for 22 years.
