Cheb - The Historical Cheb Foundation has prepared a study for the restoration of the former cemetery in Krásná Lípa near Cheb. The remnants of the long-gone village cemetery aim to be transformed by the city foundation into a memorial site to commemorate the village. It will also be interesting for cyclists who travel along the adjacent bike path, said Cheb's deputy mayor and chairman of the foundation Michal Pospíšil (ODS) to reporters today.

Krásná Lípa was located near the border with Germany. This fact determined its fate. After the creation of the Iron Curtain, it found itself in an inaccessible border zone and disappeared. Since last year, the foundation has been trying to give a dignified form at least to the cemetery.
Last autumn, the cemetery was cleared of invasive trees. A dendrological study of the local trees was also conducted, Pospíšil stated. Because he is an architect by profession, he developed a study for a possible future form of the memorial site. It considers the use of the last gravestones that remain in the cemetery, the construction of a low wall, partly brick and partly made of bushes. A gate made of wooden beams resembling church structures should draw attention to the original purpose of the site.
According to the study, Pospíšil indicated that the costs would be about 630,000 crowns. "But there is room for savings of about 150,000 crowns. Further price reductions may come from the tender for the contractor," Pospíšil stated. Thus, costs could be brought down to half a million crowns.
If no complications arise, the foundation intends to begin the adjustments this summer, with the memorial site overlooking the border and the neighboring Bavarian meadows possibly completed by autumn.
