The city will offer the former cultural center on Zlatý vrch for use by schools

Cheb - The former cultural house in the Zlatý vrch housing estate wants the city of Cheb to utilize it for the needs of schools. The possibility of receiving a grant for reconstruction is fundamentally limited by the condition of its non-commercial use. Therefore, the city will prepare a project for its use for its educational facilities and will apply for a grant for reconstruction, said Cheb Mayor Antonín Jalovec (VPM) to ČTK.

"Any form of saving the cultural house at Zlatý vrch is very costly because just the repair of the facade and the building's facilities would involve tens of millions of crowns. Which is unmanageable for the city without a grant. All grant titles consider non-commercial use. Therefore, it makes sense to offer it to our contributory organizations," Jalovec stated.

Interest has been expressed by the 3rd elementary school and the Sova House of Children and Youth. The elementary school could acquire facilities for an after-school club, some clubs, or even an auditorium, which the school currently lacks. The House of Children and Youth could operate some technical clubs there.

The city also considered demolishing the building, which has been unused for years and is thus a target for vandals or the homeless. However, it is a concrete skeleton from the 1980s, and its demolition would also be very costly. As the costs for the necessary remediation of the building rose, the chance of private investors being interested in the property decreased.

The Zlatý vrch housing estate is among the largest housing estates in Cheb. However, it suffers from a number of problems that stem from its history. For example, during its construction, parking for a larger number of personal cars was not taken into account. This causes significant problems today. Civic amenities were also very underestimated back then. Nevertheless, in recent years, the city has invested tens of millions of crowns, especially in the reconstruction of roads.
