The town is preparing the reconstruction of the granary and the cultural center at Zlatý vrch

Cheb - Cheb is preparing the reconstruction of two neglected buildings, a historic granary in the city center and a former cultural house in Zlatý vrch. The city plans to discuss both proposals with local residents. Each project involves investments in the tens of millions of crowns, said Cheb's deputy mayor Ladislav Hrubý (VPM) today to ČTK.

Regarding the granary, which was once a grain storage facility and later a fire station, the city has commissioned a feasibility study for its use. The study anticipates that a carpentry workshop and facilities for research on historical roof trusses, which are among the rarest in Europe in their entirety, will be established in the historic building. However, the city wants to reassure local residents that the carpentry workshop will primarily serve research and educational purposes, and will not be a permanent source of noise.

According to preliminary estimates, the reconstruction of the granary and its surroundings is expected to cost around 50 million crowns. The city hopes to obtain a grant from the National Recovery Plan for the renovations, which could cover up to 100 percent of eligible costs.

Similarly costly is the project for the former cultural house in the Zlatý vrch housing estate. The neglected and unused building is to be transformed into a facility for the 3rd elementary school and the Sova House of Children and Youth. The school could have some classrooms and a school auditorium in the building, while the House of Children could set up facilities for various clubs there.

In the case of the former cultural house, the city also aims to utilize grants. Since it is essentially an unused structure, it plans to request a grant for the revitalization of brownfields, which could cover up to 50 percent of the costs.

Both proposed investments are currently in the preparation stage, and the city management wishes to gain support from local residents before finalizing the project documentation. Therefore, public presentations of both planned projects are being organized.
