Cheb - By the middle of this year, the Cheb councilors are expected to approve the announcement of an architectural competition for the use of the former barracks on Zlatý vrch. The barracks have been lying unused for ten years, and this year the block on their commercial use will expire. However, their utilization could cost hundreds of millions of crowns, Mayor Pavel Vanoušek said today to reporters.
"We are still considering whether to announce a large architectural competition or some simpler variant," Vanoušek stated. According to him, the city would provide the developers with design documentation, measurements, and the zoning plan, as well as a study that was created years ago.
"We anticipate that the area would be suitable for residential use, as it is on the southern slope. This applies to both apartment buildings and family houses. There could also be space for a public building, such as a school and similar," Vanoušek noted.
The city itself, however, would not have the funds for investment in such a large area. Therefore, it will be looking for an investor. "One option is to sell the land, or sell it with certain conditions, but that hasn't worked out well for us in the past, or we will come up with some cooperation with an investor," Vanoušek mentioned.
According to estimates, the investment in the former barracks could cost hundreds of millions or even over a billion crowns. However, the area is significant for the city as it opens up further development areas for the city.
