Dome of Chaos - Invitation to the Workshop

Prof. arch. Martin Rajniš invites you to the workshop Dome of Chaos, the highlight of which - the actual raising of the structure - will take place from October 15-18, 2015 at the university campus in Prague's Dejvice.
Part of the workshop will also be a public lecture by Martin Rajniš on the topic of The Birth of Anarcho-Structuralism, which will take place on October 15, 2015 at 6:30 PM in the Balling Hall of the National Technical Library in Prague.
Life Sciences Film Festival + Street Food Festival + Architecture Hut = Science + Food + Architecture.



As part of the Life Sciences Film Festival and Street Food Festival, we will build an arch from young trunks right on the campus grounds in Dejvice. This will be a so-called structural construction from stems, similar to the one we built last year at Kyjský Pond. More info about last year’s Artifact here.
This time we will be assembling a structure of tetrahedrons from approximately 2m long stems with the help of zip ties! We aim to achieve about 10m in width, 10m in length, and 6m in height.
An important idea of the workshop is to explore the meaning and power of chaos and entropy in constructions. The construction of the Dome is essentially not thoroughly planned. The exact form will emerge during the workshop. Uncertainty and indeterminacy are key characteristics of the entire concept. From this perspective, the Dome of Chaos is Anarcho-Structure.

When and where: October 15-18, 2015 in Prague – Dejvice, between NTK and FSv CVUT
Who builds: Anyone! Passers-by can assemble parts – tetrahedrons. Registered participants – architecture students – will complete these parts and build the Dome!
For whom: For yourself, for the joy of constructing and the joyful atmosphere of the festival!
How: With your own hands with minimal tools
Applications: Anyone who wants to fully participate in the workshop must register by email at [email protected]
The application must include: Name, date of birth, and address, school and semester, your beautiful photo, and a short motivational text of about 600 characters where you write something about yourself, so we know who to look forward to! In case of an overflow of students beyond capacity, we will select based on the motivational texts.
The maximum capacity of the workshop is limited – max. 20 registered participants.
Anyone without prior registration can come during the workshop and build elementary parts, even if just for a while. But fully participating is definitely more fun;-)
