KLÁŠTEREC NAD OHŘÍ - The Association of Companies Bridge Construction Prague and Roads Žatec today began the construction of a spa zone and the restoration of the historic center in Klášterec nad Ohří. The project is set to be completed by the end of August 2006 at a cost of 110 million crowns. For this investment project, Klášterec has obtained subsidies from the state and the European Union totaling 100 million crowns, while the remaining ten million crowns will be covered by a loan from Komerční banka, Mayor Jan Houška told reporters today.
The spa zone development project includes the construction of engineering networks, a spa park with paths and a colonnade, access roads, the construction of a spa house, a mineral water bottling plant, and parking. The company will replace the surface of the streets and sidewalks in the square, the parking system will be changed, and a fountain and a statue will be added.
The city has applied for the spa status and is currently awaiting a decision from state authorities. It has previously drawn 18 million crowns from EU funds for the first phase of the spa center construction.
"We will connect the spa area with the park and lead the mineral water spring to the courtyard of the chateau. This will create conditions for investors who can subsequently build additional spa houses, including accommodation capacities," added Houška.
The construction of the spa zone in Klášterec was also welcomed by the Ústí Region governor Jiří Šulc. "One of the region's priorities is to support tourism. Therefore, I welcome the development of the city as a spa center. The region was until recently a stronghold of heavy industry, but that is changing. In addition to the traditional spas in Teplice, Klášterec is now following suit, and there are also considerations for spa status in Louny," he added.
