Prague - The project documentation for the planned Dvorecký Bridge between Prague 4 and Prague 5 will be prepared by the winners of the architectural competition announced by the city for the design of the building. The winners are the studios Tubes and Atelier 6, and the value of the contract is 110 million crowns. The decision regarding the assignment was made today by Prague representatives. The construction is estimated to cost approximately one billion crowns, and according to the approved document, the bridge could be completed in four years.
The main purpose of the planned structure is to improve the transport connection between both banks of the Vltava River. The bridge will only serve public transport vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists, and private cars are not planned for it. The eastern exit of the bridge will be located at Žluté lázně north of Jeremenková Street. The western exit will be near the tram stop Lihovar. The project includes a design for a new tram stop Dvorecký most.
The city selected the authors of the bridge design through an architectural competition launched at the end of last year, in which 45 proposals were submitted. The winning design references Cubism and has no structure above the roadway, making it blend seamlessly into the Vltava valley according to the members of the selection committee.
The latest bridge in Prague over the Vltava River, the Troja Bridge, was opened in October 2014. It was created as part of the Blanka tunnel complex and replaced the Troja tram bridge from 1981, nicknamed "rámusák," whose operation was officially concluded on October 7, 2013, with a ride of a museum tram. Last December, a pedestrian footbridge between Císařský Island and Troja collapsed. The city is preparing a tender for the construction of a new one. Many other bridges in Prague are in poor condition, and the city is planning their repairs, as well as the construction of several new bridges and footbridges.
