Prague – The Prague City Hall has announced a tender for 972 million crowns for the construction of the Dvorecký Bridge, which will connect Prague 4 and 5. The mayor's transport deputy, Adam Scheinherr (Prague for All), told journalists after today's city council meeting. According to him, construction should begin no later than the middle of next year and will last two to three years. The bridge will serve trams, buses, cyclists, and pedestrians and is intended to improve the transport connection between the Zlíchov and Podolí banks of the Vltava.
"The competition is set up so that we are not only interested in the price, but the evaluation criteria include quality, which is measured by the duration of the work completion, the length of the warranty period, and also, last but not least, the qualifications of the team," said the deputy. He added that the city would like to select the contractor by the end of the year.
The eastern outlet of the bridge will be at the Yellow Baths north of Jeremenkova Street, and the western part will be near the Lihovar tram stop. The design for the construction is managed by the Tubes and Atelier6 studios based on the results of the architectural competition. The project price was set at 132.7 million crowns in the competition. The design with cubist elements, according to city management, will bring improvements to transport, especially public transport, as some lines will no longer have to travel through Podskalí and across the Palacký Bridge. The space under the bridge is to be used for leisure activities and a café. The project includes the design of a new tram stop, Dvorecký Bridge.
The most recent bridge over the Vltava in Prague, the Troja Bridge, was opened in October 2014. It replaced the Troja tram bridge from 1981, nicknamed "the noisy one," which was closed on October 7, 2013. Last year, the city opened a new footbridge over the Vltava in Troja at the site of the one that collapsed in 2017. The City Hall also recently selected the company Skanska in a tender to build a footbridge between Holešovice and Karlín over Štvanice Island. Karlín and Holešovice are also expected to be connected in the future by the new Rohanský Bridge; however, the City Hall has not yet decided on its construction. Many bridges over the Vltava are in poor condition, and the city is gradually repairing them, currently, for example, the Barrandov Bridge.
