Josef Gočár, regulatory plan of Hradec Králové, 1924
Hradec Králové - The Hradec Králové council approved the initiation of the preparation of a new spatial plan, which will govern the development of the hundred-thousand-strong city starting in 2015. The costs for the new spatial plan, to be developed by architects Tomáš Vymetálek and Patrik Kotas, will amount to about 20 million crowns. This was announced today by the mayor's deputy Jindřich Vedlich (TOP 09), stating that the councilors will officially approve the initiation of the spatial plan at the end of October. The city began work on the new spatial plan at the beginning of this year by announcing a competition for the conceptual design of the new spatial plan. The conceptual design by architects Vymetálek and Kotas was selected as the best among 19 proposals in June. In the ongoing process of preparing and discussing the spatial plan, the city has recorded about 300 comments from citizens and affected entities and institutions. The entire process of drafting the plan should be completed by the middle of 2015. The proposal by Vymetálek and Kotas develops the current circular layout of the city established by the plan of Josef Gočár from the first half of the 20th century. The development axis is envisioned to extend westward towards the Kukleny area towards the D11 highway. The plan also addresses the currently insufficient transport connection between the city center and Kukleny. The new plan should also more accurately define the structure of buildings that may be constructed in the area. Currently, the city and investors are governed by the spatial plan from 2000. The councilors have made about 250 changes to this plan so far. The 2006 building law has compelled the city to create a new spatial plan, under which every city in the Czech Republic must have a new spatial plan developed by the end of 2015 or conduct a revision of the current one. Hradec has decided to create a new plan.
