Hradec Králové - The investment in the repairs of the pre-war fortress Dobrošov in the Náchod region will be approximately three million crowns higher than the original estimate, totaling about 97 million. The increase was approved today by the regional representatives. The investment rose due to the preparation of a more detailed project documentation last year.

"Last year, the implementation project documentation was realized, which also included adjustments to individual exhibitions,"
commented on the cost increase Deputy Governor Martina Berdychová (Mayors and East Bohemians).

The region will begin the repair of the historical complex of buildings around this June. Most of the funds will be used for construction work, and about 20 million will go towards the creation of exhibitions and the equipment of the visitor center. Approximately 90 percent of the costs will be covered by grants from European Union funds.

The region has also approved a competition for the contractors of the construction work. The work will involve the complex of shelters and underground corridors, the entrance hall, and the exhibition halls. The reconstruction will also include the facilities for employees, the access road, and parking.

Hradec Králové region received the Dobrošov fortress free of charge from the military in 2015, and the Náchod museum provides guided tours for visitors. The fortress, which is visited by about 30,000 people annually, is accessible only by appointment from the end of November to the end of March; due to nesting bats, the number of visitors is limited. During the season, there is one guided tour route through the fortress's underground, and the Jeřáb facility is exceptionally accessible.

The Dobrošov fortress was built to protect the republic along with other border fortifications against the expanding Nazi Germany. However, it was not completed before the signing of the Munich Agreement on the cession of Czechoslovakia's border regions to Germany in September 1938.
