Valašské Klobouky – Commented tours will guide visitors to Valašské Klobouky in the Zlín region through historical buildings that are not usually open to the public this summer. People will also visit wooden houses, the chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius, and the house of Josef Bratmann. They can also come to hear the story of the Klobouky cemetery and the notable personalities buried there, said Lenka Zvonková, spokesperson for the Valašské Klobouky town hall, to ČTK.
"On two dates, July 20 and August 18, you will be welcomed by two preserved wooden houses from the region. At Kosenka, you will hear about the lives of our ancestors and folk architecture, and in the Piveček wooden house, you will also peek into the living room, where local carpenter Martin Cigánek will be waiting for you with a demonstration of woodwork, or Mrs. Marie Kolínková will showcase the production of traditional Valachian slippers," stated Petr Odehnal, historian of the town museum.
A new feature will be a walk through the local cemetery. The guided tour is scheduled for July 21. Architecture enthusiasts can visit the house of Josef Bratmann on August 24, the first Art Nouveau building in Czech territory. It was designed by local native architect Hubert Gessner, whose works are also featured in exhibitions at the Old Town Hall and in the barn next to Josef Bratmann's house.
The following day, a tour of the Cyril and Methodius chapel with artwork by Bohumír Lindauer will take place. "Bohumír Lindauer worked in Vienna in the workshop of Karel Hemmerlein, which created altar paintings and the Stations of the Cross for the Valašské Klobouky church and in 1863 prepared decorations for the newly built chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius. Bohumír Lindauer contributed to this and even immortalized himself in one of the paintings, where his self-portrait serves as the face of John the Evangelist," Odehnal explained.
On Saturday, August 26, the series of commented tours will culminate in the event Living Wooden Houses. "During this event, the atmosphere reminiscent of the times of our ancestors will return to the cottages, crafts and traditions will be showcased, dishes of Valachian cuisine will be available for tasting, and musicians will perform to entertain," the spokesperson stated.
