Kralupy nad Vltavou - Kralupy nad Vltavou in the Mělník region has selected a designer for a new primary school for more than 500 students in the Lobeček part of the city. Construction could start in 2026. The school is expected to open in September 2027, informed CTK spokesperson of the Kralupy town hall Aleš Levý.
The project documentation, including the issuance of a building permit, should be completed by the end of next year, followed by a tender for the construction company. "The actual construction is expected to take place from April 2026 to June 2027," said Levý.
The school will be created through the reconstruction of the former chemical vocational school. The building was acquired by the city from the Central Bohemian Region this spring. The regional authority sold the property to the city for nearly 40 million crowns based on the appraised value. The exact cost of the transformation will be clear after the completion of the work tender, but according to estimates, the price will reach several hundred million crowns.
The population of Kralupy and some nearby municipalities is increasing, so the capacity of Kralupy's primary schools, as well as those in the surrounding areas, will not be sufficient in the coming years. Expansions of schools are also being planned in nearby Nelahozeves and Veltrusy. In Nelahozeves, they want to expand at least the first stage, which should serve students starting in the 2026/2027 school year.
