The Kroměříž Town Hall has unveiled the future design of the funeral hall

Kroměříž – The Kroměříž town hall has published a study considering the reconstruction of the funeral hall at the municipal cemetery on Velehradská Street. The estimated costs for the renovation of the hall and its surroundings amount to 40 million crowns. The study includes the reconstruction of the internal and external parts of the building and the improvement of the space in its immediate vicinity, as well as the addition of parking spaces. The city is now going to have project documentation prepared, said Deputy Mayor Daniela Hebnarová (ODS) to reporters.

"The environment of the existing funeral hall no longer meets current standards. Not in terms of appearance, nor in the internal spaces, nor in the external spaces, nor in the facilities. There is a lack of parking spaces and insufficient greenery. So we decided that we should fix all of this," said Hebnarová.

The author of the study is architect Martin Cviček from Brno. "The funeral area can be expanded into the existing operational spaces. Unattractive extensions from past years will be removed and the entrance to the funeral hall will be turned around," stated Cviček.

The study plans to preserve the Jewish cemetery, which will be bordered by a living hedge. The changes will involve the greenery, and builders will also remove stabilized surfaces, which are in a state of disrepair. "This will create sunny areas full of flowers that will connect the funeral hall with the cemetery. The operational part of the funeral hall will be moved to the road, thus to the loudest place. The hall itself will be expanded with a gallery, so that more mourners can fit into the funeral hall, with about 230 seated," added Hebnarová.

The modifications will also include the expansion of parking areas that will accommodate more than 50 vehicles. The city also plans to replace the furniture. According to Hebnarová, the reconstruction of the funeral hall was one of the options to improve the condition, environment, and dignity of the building where people say goodbye to their deceased ones. The city also considered demolishing it and building a new funeral hall. However, surveys showed, according to city representatives, that the building is in very good condition, so the city will proceed with its reconstruction. There are also plans to equip the hall with modern audio and video technology. According to Mayor Jaroslav Němec (Independent), the reconstruction should not begin until the next election term.

The municipal cemetery was established at its current location at the beginning of the 20th century. After World War II, it merged with the Jewish cemetery, and it was the Jewish funeral hall that was converted into a funeral hall in 1960, which has since been the site of all ceremonies.
