Rožnov pod Radhoštěm - Thirty architecture students from across the Czech Republic gathered for a unique event in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm. For the second week within the framework of the Summer School of Architecture, they are working in collaboration with renowned experts and architects on assignments for specific locations in the municipality of Trojanovice. In the first task, they are dealing with an urban design for an area designated for the construction of family homes. In the second task, they are exploring the possibilities of converting the Frenštát mine site, where two towers currently serve to explore potential deposits of black coal. At the presentation of student works on Tuesday, September 11, at the Congress Hall of the Eroplán hotel in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm, the mayor of Trojanovice, Jiří Novotný, also came to see the presentations. "I consider the main idea of the event 'to reflect on the usability of a specific place' to be very beneficial for all municipalities. The housing proposals are made by young people who bring a valuable external perspective. At the same time, they represent future residents of currently undeveloped areas," responded the mayor of Trojanovice at the end of the presentation. He was intrigued by the projects presented by the young architects. "Especially the one based on the Carpathian tradition of logging villages. The students show sensitivity to the original form of development, to the cultivation, and to the development of the environment. Their ideas are also inspiring for the dealings between municipal councils and developers," added the mayor. The students also participate in sightseeing excursions around the area during the summer school to be in direct contact with the unique atmosphere that the Beskydy Mountains offer. "We decided to place the Summer School of Architecture in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm because it is one of the symbolic gateways to the Beskydy. The main theme of the school is designing in protected landscape areas, where architects must cope with a number of strict regulations affecting the form of their projects. Near Rožnov, there are Pustevny with the famous buildings of Dušan Jurkovič, in the town itself is the oldest open-air museum in the Czech Republic, and in its immediate vicinity, we can encounter interesting modern and contemporary architecture. Students have the opportunity to design architecture for specific locations in neighboring Trojanovice, which were selected by the mayor of Trojanovice, Jiří Novotný, along with architect Kamil Mrva," states the expert guarantor of the Summer School of Architecture, journalist Petr Volf. Young architects were visited in Rožnov by lecturers such as lawyer Jiří Plos, a leading expert on the legal aspects of architecture and urbanism, Slovak architect Tomáš Bujna, Czech-born architect Jiří Klokočka living in Belgium, the new dean of the Faculty of Art and Architecture at the Technical University in Liberec, Professor Zdeněk Fránek, and the head of the administration of the Beskydy Protected Landscape Area, František Jaskula. The students also attend lectures by other renowned architects and university educators. "The younger generation is open to new perspectives on construction in such a sensitive environment as the Beskydy, but at the same time, it carefully examines traditions and wants to build upon them," says architect Kamil Mrva, the expert guarantor of the project and one of the most prominent representatives of the younger generation of Czech architects, who consults with students daily in Rožnov. "Overall, the students predominantly approach this urban vision based on traditional architecture, and their proposals are a significant contrast to the blanket development that we see today in many satellite towns," emphasizes Kamil Mrva. All student works will be presented on Friday, September 14, 2012, at an exhibition at the Relax hotel in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm and will then be displayed at several other locations in the Czech Republic.

Emphasis is placed on the active involvement of partners, collaboration with practice, and international activities. The purpose of the project is to map and showcase high-quality and exceptional contemporary architecture in places that are far from traditional centers and which often find themselves unjustly in a position of "invisible outsiders." > more about the project
