Líbeznice - Líbeznice near Prague is preparing a project for the construction of a new school building according to the design by architect David Grulich. By the end of March, the municipality should find out whether it will receive a grant from the Ministry of Education. The total cost may exceed 100 million crowns. Necessary administrative steps are currently being prepared so that construction can ideally begin this summer. In response to a query from ČTK, Líbeznice mayor Martin Kupka (ODS) said today.
The capacity of the already several times expanded Líbeznice school is insufficient, and interest continues to grow. Currently, the capacity stands at 1,020 students; after further expansion, it would increase to 1,500 students.
In the school year starting this September, first-grade students will be taught in temporary facilities. "We will also adapt the existing community center Archa for the needs of the school. We will be temporarily modifying the interior spaces of the school, unfortunately also those in the basement," said Kupka. According to him, the municipality is also considering using a newly built family house temporarily adjusted for one year for teaching.
The form of the new school was selected by the municipality from several designs in an architectural competition last autumn. If nothing complicates the construction, the building will serve students starting from September 2019.
Many municipalities in the vicinity of Prague have small school capacities, where the population has significantly increased in recent years due to new construction. In addition to local children, students from Měšice, Bašť, Předboj, Nová Ves, Bořanovice, Zlonín, and Sedlec also attend the Líbeznice school.
