Mariánské Lázně - Mariánské Lázně has included the Bear Spring on the list of memorial sites in the city. The city wants to clean and adjust the area around the healing spring in the forest park so that it can once again become a tourist destination. The bear statue and the gazebo at the spring are in a deplorable state, said the Deputy Mayor of Mariánské Lázně, Vojtěch Franta (Pirates), to ČTK today.
“When you go to see the Bear Spring, you will find that its surroundings are full of trash and fire pits. The bear itself is nearly falling apart - it has no head. So it is necessary to put it back together. Although ownership is somewhat complicated, we have included the Bear Spring on the list of memorial sites in the city. We want it to become an attractive place again and to be a destination for walks for our citizens and guests,” Franta said.
Mariánské Lázně is thus responding, among other things, to the increasing complaints about litter in the area. The statue of the bear by Vítězslav Eibel, which has stood at the spring since the 1960s, will receive a new head, and the gazebo, wooden bridges, and benches will be renovated. Preparing the site for visitors will cost the city just under 100,000 crowns.
In recent years, the city has been trying, not very successfully, to clear the viewpoints in the spa forests, but it also has other memorial sites that it maintains from a reserved fund. These include, for instance, the rest area of Abbot Clementso, the Lasky chapel, or the Hamelika lookout tower. According to the regulation, there are 18 memorial sites in the city.
