Prague - Mladá fronta Dnes comments on the events surrounding the planned relocation of the Brno train station. Three years ago, the largest municipal referendum in the country was held regarding this issue, and since Prague did not choose its intention to run for the Olympics as a topic for voting, it will likely remain, for a long time, the largest municipal referendum, writes MfD. Since then, many Pendolinos have traveled along the corridor from Česká Třebová to Břeclav. All have stopped at the aging Brno train station. And one day, according to the newspaper, change arrived - ČSSD replaced ODS in the city council. The Social Democrats included opponents of the relocation in their coalition, and the carousel of "where to put the station" began anew, the paper reminds. The name of the displaced variant still meant the same: about 800 meters south of the existing main station. In contrast, the variant for the station in the center was originally at the location of the old building and then shifted toward "relocation," stopping after two hundred meters. Thus, the difference between the two variants was 600 meters. There were several conclusions according to the newspaper, the clearest being that if the construction is delayed, Brno will lose a substantial contribution from the European Union. ČSSD is now seeking support from the opposition ODS for a partial decision about the station, after the other coalition members remain in their positions, summarizes the commentator, adding that the station is not the only problematic construction in Brno. "It can be said that in Brno, it's almost every construction. The reason is strong environmental and civic organizations and a significantly damaged trust in the city council, which has been ruled more by construction companies and real estate traders than by politicians," writes MfD.
