Olomouc - Approximately 280 million crowns will be invested by the Olomouc city hall in the renovation and expansion of the main pavilion A of the Flora exhibition grounds. Part of the costs of the project, which the city will begin this year, will likely be covered by grants from European funds, said Deputy Mayor Martin Major (ODS) to ČTK today. Pavilion A annually hosts, among other things, the main exhibition of the international flower exhibition Flora. The main pavilion of the Olomouc exhibition grounds, which has been in operation since 1967, is set to undergo a comprehensive reconstruction according to Major. "Only the reinforced concrete skeleton will be preserved from the existing property, the other parts of the building will be replaced because they are in unsatisfactory condition," said the deputy. He added that the city will also allow for additional construction of the pavilion. The new spaces will serve as facilities for the service operations of the exhibition grounds, exhibitors, and the operators of catering services. The city hall wants to start the investment, for which it has announced a public commercial competition for the contractor in recent days, after the completion of the spring stage of the Flora Olomouc flower exhibition. It should be completed by mid-2013. The joint-stock company Flora Olomouc was established in 2000 by the Olomouc city hall, which is the sole owner of the company. The history of the exhibition grounds dates back to 1966 when a budget organization called Olomouc Exhibition Gardens was established by a decision of the District National Committee in Olomouc.
