Otrokovice – The Otrokovice municipal office is preparing to demolish residential buildings in the Hurdisky area and build new social housing. A few last tenants need to be relocated before the old so-called Hurdis houses can be vacated. All those who have moved out so far have found new homes in other municipal apartments or in other forms of rental housing, said the spokesperson of the municipal office, Lenka Vaculová, in a press release today.
"As soon as we have all the necessary permits and the relocation of the last tenants is resolved, we will start the demolition work. The assumption is next year," Vaculová told ČTK.
The city plans to build 44 apartments in three apartment buildings as part of the project "New Hurdisky - social housing Otrokovice." "The majority will be two-room apartments, of which the city has a shortage, and they are currently in highest demand in the municipal rental housing market. The buildings will not have basements," the spokesperson stated. The city has already selected a project processor, but the costs are not yet known.
According to the municipal office, the old Hurdis houses are in poor condition. The city considered how to deal with them. "After considering all analyses, we came to the unequivocal conclusion that the best option would be to demolish the structures and build new apartments intended for municipal rental housing using grant funds for social and affordable housing. We have simultaneously offered assistance to all tenants in finding new housing," said the mayor of Otrokovice, Hana Večerková (ANO).
Another option was also the reconstruction of the buildings. "The buildings are in such technical condition that their repair is almost unrealistic and would be more costly than demolition and new construction. Moreover, the number of apartments will be increased and living in the new ones will provide people with greater comfort," the mayor noted.
