Prague – The cost of constructing an elementary school in Komořany, located in Prague 12, which is expected to serve 840 students upon completion, is estimated by the local council at 450 million crowns excluding VAT. This is one of the main investment plans of the municipal office, as there is currently no school in Komořany. Prague 12 will announce a single-round architectural competition for the future design of the new building, which is to be located on the land near Do Koutů Street. Competitive proposals can be submitted until November 1. This is evident from the documents related to the council's resolution.
"The building will have to deal with a relatively small, sloped plot of land near the forest. Given that there is a lack of places for residents to meet in Komořany, we will also want the gyms and the cafeteria to be designed so that they can serve public events or rentals," said the mayor of Prague 12, Jan Adamec (Pirates), to ČTK earlier. According to Adamec, the need to build a school complex with capacity for three parallel classes in each grade was indicated by a demographic study responding to potential large housing development in Komořany.
The school building is to have 15 core classrooms for primary school students and 12 classrooms for secondary school students. Plans also include two gyms, a cafeteria and kitchen, a multifunctional classroom, changing rooms, and facilities for school staff. According to the document, the participants in the competition will also be tasked with designing the school’s outdoor areas and sports facilities, addressing transport accessibility, and connecting to technical infrastructure networks.
The intention to build a new elementary school in Komořany was approved by the city council in July 2019. The subsequent feasibility study, developed by Martin Burýšek, confirmed in September 2020 that the school could be built along Do Koutů Street. The plan for the future design of the school to arise from the architectural competition was approved by the council this February.
Prague 12 is investing nearly 105 million this year in the construction of new kindergartens and the renovation of existing ones, according to the 2021 budget. Most of this money is earmarked for the construction of the Mydlinky kindergarten, which is to be built on land between K Beránku, Dolnocholupická, and Lešetínská streets and, upon completion, will offer spaces for 112 children. Prague 12 anticipates the start of construction in July.
In Prague 12, the coalition consists of representatives from the Pirates, ODS, TOP 09, and the Greens. Prague 12, home to 56,617 residents, includes the entire cadastral areas of Cholupice, Kamýk, Komořany, Modřany, and Točná. The 2021 budget for Prague 12 estimates revenues of 485.8 million and expenditures of 723.7 million crowns.
