Prague - The new leadership of Prague 8 has canceled the tender for the renovation of the space near the Ládví metro station on line C. The reason is high costs; the municipality will seek a cheaper repair option. Mayor Ondřej Gros (ODS) said this today to ČTK. The contract was announced by the municipality last August, and the then management estimated costs at 40 million crowns. The Ládví area was supposed to include a redesigned square and space for markets or a fountain.

"The project, as it was prepared, is too expensive. However, we want to renovate the space, but in a more sober version," said Gros. He did not specify how the project would be specifically changed or how much money the municipality would want to invest in the renovations. About 14 days ago, Gros mentioned in an interview with ČTK that the municipality needs to reduce its ordinary expenses and, as part of savings, will halt preparations for some projects.

According to the original plan, a new large square was to be created near the metro station, where cultural events would be held, followed by a small square and a space for a farmers' market. A fountain was to be built, new greenery planted, and a memorial to the architect of the adjacent housing estate, Viktor Tuček, erected.

In the past, the municipality repaired the surroundings of the Krakow commercial and cultural center, where a new square was created. It also renovated the areas near Libeň Castle. It had also planned the restoration of Elsnic Square in Libeň, including uncovering the riverbed of the Rokytka. That has not happened yet.
